A Christmas Break to Remember
This year, my Christmas break wasn’t what I expected. Instead of the usual staying at home, just sleeping and eating until Christmas break ends, this year was completely different for me. Because I spent it at the 6th Regional Scout Jamboree and it was different, but honestly, it turned out to be one of the most memorable breaks I’ve ever had.
From the moment I arrived, I knew it was going to be an experience. Being surrounded by so many people, all from different places, and all there for the same reason. I wasn’t just hanging out with strangers; I was making new friends and sharing moments that I’ll remember for a long time.
There was one activity that really stood out to me, and that was sandboarding. I had never done it before, and I honestly wasn’t sure I’d be good at it. But I gave it a shot, and wow, the rush was incredible. The feeling of speeding down the sand dunes with the wind in my face? I could’ve done that all day. But what made it even better was the energy of everyone around me. We were all cheering each other on, and it made the whole experience so much more fun.
Another module that stood out was bandaging with the use of our necker. I was fully engaged while learning because I knew it was something I could actually use in real life. The thought that I could help someone in an emergency by applying what I learned made it more meaningful. It wasn’t just a skill; it was something practical and important. Having my friends by my side made it even better—we learned together, helped each other, and laughed through it all.
Every day was filled with new things to try. There was always something going on, whether it was a new skill to learn or just hanging out with the group, sharing stories, and making memories. Even when I was tired or worn out, I never let it stop me from giving my best.
I kept reminding myself why I was there. I was there to learn. I was there to grow. I was there to experience everything scouting has to offer. So, even if I was exhausted by the end of the day, I made sure I made the most of every moment.
What made the experience even more memorable and meaningful were the friends I had by my side—Jolly and Jada. I honestly don’t think I would have enjoyed it as much without them.
We shared laughs, supported each other, and got through the challenges together.
Plus, being a part of Unit 407 made everything feel more connected. The bond we formed as a unit really added to the experience, and it’s something I’ll always carry with me.
But speaking of the highlight of my holiday break, I also spent quality time with my loved ones.
We spent Christmas Eve together, and it was truly special. Afterward, we went on a trip to La Union! It was a bit of a drive, but I love traveling with my family—it's one of our favorite things to do.While we were there, we went to several tourist spots, including the beautiful man-made forest, Bato de Luna, and the tower by the beach. The views were breathtaking, and we had such a great time there.
Then, on the first day of New Year, we also went to Abra! The holiday break ended up being filled with so much adventure. The chance to spend time with my family and explore new places made it all unforgettable. The trips we took, along with the experiences I had at the jamboree, made this holiday break one of the best I’ve ever had.
Looking back now, those five days at the jamboree were definitely the highlight of my Christmas break, but the time spent with my family made it even better. It wasn’t what I thought I’d be doing for the holidays, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. It reminded me why I joined scouting in the first place—to learn, to meet new people, and to make every moment count. Whether it was with my friends at the jamboree or my family on our travels, this break was truly unforgettable—and one to remember.
